Research Areas Infectious Disease
Background Group B Streptococci (GBS) are found in about 25% of all healthy adults and pregnant women in the intestine, vagina, and rectal area. Most women who are carriers of the bacteria do not show any symptoms; however, under certain circumstances, infection of both the mother and/or the newborn can develop. In newborns, if the GBS infection develops in the first week of life, it is termed early-onset disease. If the GBS infection develops from 1 week to 3 months of age, it is referred to as late-onset disease. On average, approximately 1,000 babies in the United States develop early-onset disease each year, with similar rates for late-onset disease.
Handling
Storage These antibodies are stable for at least one (1) year at -20° to -70°C. Store product in appropriate aliquots to avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
Dilution Instructions Dilute in PBS or medium that is identical to that used in the assay system.
Application Instructions These antibodies have been qualified for use in ELISA to detect Group B Streptococci.
