BACKGROUND
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a double-stranded DNA enveloped virus that can establish latent infection and cause disease in immunocompromised individuals. Entry of HCMV into cells requires the conserved glycoprotein B (gB) which has been identified as a fusogen. gB is immunogenic and stimulates production of neutralizing antibodies, but most anti-gB antibodies are non-neutralizing. Heavy glycosylation of the gB ectodomain appears to mask neutralizing epitopes while exposing non-neutralizing epitopes which helps HCMV avoid immune clearance.
DESCRIPTION
Recombinant HCMV gB is produced in E. coli and contains immunodominant aa 11-67 (6.5kDa). It is fused with a 26kDa GST tag and is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. This product is reactive with sera collected from CMV-infected individuals.
STORAGE AND STABILITY
This product is stable at 4°C for one (1) week, but storage at ≤-20°C is recommended.
