Overview
Product Name Mumps Virus Antigen (BA103VS)
Description Mumps virus infected cells are harvested, washed and virus is extracted by alkaline treatment and sonication. Following clarification, the suspension is purified and concentrated by ultracentrifugation. The resulting antigen preparation consists of a high concentration of virus and viral components and contains residual host cell material. The antigen is suspended in 100 mM glycine buffer, pH 9.5.

Background Mumps Virus is the causative agent of mumps, a well-known common childhood disease causing high morbidity and in some cases more serious complications such as deafness. The virus is transmitted by direct contact, droplet spread, or contaminated objects. For the production of the native antigen, Mumps Virus (strain Enders) is cultivated in Vero cells. After harvest, the virus is extracted by alkaline treatment and sonication. Following clarification, the suspension is purified and concentrated by ultra-centrifugation. The antigen is suitable for the detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against Mumps.
