Biological Function Putative oxidoreductase. Acts as a tumor suppressor and plays a role in apoptosis. Required for normal bone development (By similarity). May function synergistically with p53/TP53 to control genotoxic stress-induced cell death. Plays a role in TGFB1 signaling and TGFB1-mediated cell death. May also play a role in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-mediated cell death. Inhibits Wnt signaling, probably by sequestering DVL2 in the cytoplasm. {PubMed:11719429, PubMed:15070730, PubMed:15548692, PubMed:16061658, PubMed:16219768, PubMed:19366691, PubMed:19465938}.
Research Areas Cancer research
Background WW domain-containing oxidoreductase, WWOX, also known as WOX1 or FOR, is a proapoptotic protein expressed by a tumor suppressor gene. Because mutation or deletion in the coding region of WWOX is rarely found, it is speculated that the appearance of aberrant transcripts affects progression of many cancers. In addition, protein levels of WWOX, its Tyr33- phosphorylated form, and WOX2 are significantly down-regulated in the neurons of Alzheimer's hippocampi.
Handling
Storage This antibody is stable for at least one (1) year at -20°C. Avoid multiple freeze- thaw cycles.
Dilution Instructions Dilute in PBS or medium that is identical to that used in the assay system.
Application Instructions Immunoblotting : use at 1:5,000 dilution. A band of approximately 46 kDa is detected.
Positive control: MCF-7 human breast cancer cell lysate or murine fibroblast L929 cell lysate.
