Specificity Information
Specificity This antibody recognizes the human variant of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). nNOS is one of three NOS isoforms along with endothelial cell NOS (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS). The three isoforms differ in primary sequence, having only 50-60% sequence identity. nNOS and iNOS can be purified from cytosol while eNOS is membrane-bound. All three NOS isoforms catalyze the formation of NO and L-citrulline from L-arginine.
Target Name Nitric oxide synthase, brain
Target ID Nitric Oxide Synthase, Neuronal
Uniprot ID P29475
Alternative Names EC 1.14.13.39, Constitutive NOS, NC-NOS, NOS type I, Neuronal NOS, N-NOS, nNOS, Peptidyl-cysteine S-nitrosylase NOS1, bNOS
Gene Name NOS1
Sequence Location Cell membrane, sarcolemma; Peripheral membrane protein. Cell projection, dendritic spine
Biological Function Produces nitric oxide (NO) which is a messenger molecule with diverse functions throughout the body. In the brain and peripheral nervous system, NO displays many properties of a neurotransmitter. Probably has nitrosylase activity and mediates cysteine S-nitrosylation of cytoplasmic target proteins such SRR.
Research Areas Neuroscience
Handling
Storage This antibody is stable for at least one (1) year at -20°C. Avoid multiple freeze- thaw cycles.
Dilution Instructions Dilute in PBS or medium which is identical to that used in the assay system.
Application Instructions Immunoblotting: use at 1:500-1:1,000 dilution. In immunoblots, a band of approximately 155 kD is detected.
