Specificity Information
Specificity This antibody recognizes human hippostatin/KLK11 (35 kDa) which has 86% sequence homology with mouse and rat.
Target Name Kallikrein-11
Target ID KLK11/Hippostatin
Uniprot ID Q9UBX7
Alternative Names hK11, EC 3.4.21.-, Hippostasin, Serine protease 20, Trypsin-like protease [Cleaved into: Kallikrein-11 inactive chain 1; Kallikrein-11 inactive chain 2]
Gene Name KLK11
Sequence Location [Isoform 1]: Secreted.; [Isoform 2]: Golgi apparatus.
Biological Function Possible multifunctional protease. Efficiently cleaves 'bz-Phe-Arg-4-methylcoumaryl-7-amide', a kallikrein substrate, and weakly cleaves other substrates for kallikrein and trypsin. Cleaves synthetic peptides after arginine but not lysine residues. {PubMed:10872828, PubMed:16467084}.
Research Areas Cancer research
Background Hippostatin, also known as KLK11, is a kallikrein-like serine protease, which has two alternatively spliced isoforms, brain- type and prostate-type. Hippostatin plays a role in the prostate, including reproductive and/or tumorigenic functions. Elevated serum levels of KLK11 were found in 70% of women with ovarian cancer and in 60% of men with prostate cancer. Analysis of the KLK11 biomarker in serum may aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of ovarian and prostatic carcinoma.
